Field School: Rural-Urban Migration in Batam
There are a number of exciting ways that University of Sydney students can participate in exchange programs or field schools in Southeast Asian countries.
Our flagship field schools bring students from different disciplines together to tackle a real-world problem specific to a country in the region. Our students have undertaken exchanges in Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Singapore, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
Why go on exchange to Southeast Asia?
Whether or not you are studying subjects relating to Southeast Asia, countries in this region are an ideal destination for Australian students. Here are some reasons:
Short distance: Studying in Southeast Asia does not involve a long-haul, 24-hour flight. You can be at your destination within eight hours.
Study in English: In Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, international exchange students can nominate to study in English.
Low cost: The cost of living in Southeast Asia is much cheaper than being a student in Europe or the United States, leaving you plenty of extra cash to explore other countries in the region.
